A Windfall |
| |
Saturday, September 10, 2005
Where has the summer gone? Many new projects are coming up for us including
a Design Build of an emergency source well for the city of Goldendale. The
Lutheran Church is being sheet rocked and we should start trim by the end of
the month. We have another great opportunity with the WSU, Klickitat
County Learning Center. On the 17th of September we will be hosting a hands
on installation of a 1kw solar demo array here at Seraphim Electric. People
can sign up by contacting Tim Shatraw at 1-866-773-5620.
We will also be participating in a Renewable Energy Brainstorming session
at the Learning Center on September 20th at 6:30 pm. We will be discussing
ways to make renewable energy work for residence of Klickitat County and the
Gorge. Topics will include, installations, co-operatives, bringing RE
manufacturing to the region and much more. Read about
the 1st meeting.
The Klickitat County fair was a great success. We met some great people
at the Seraphim Electric booth and ended up buying a lamb to support the
local 4-H clubs |

Exciting New Renewable Energy
Developments |
| |
Saturday, June 11, 2005
There's so much happening in renewable energy right now I almost have to
pinch myself to believe it. New legislation has been signed into law in
Washington State that will give private producers of energy made by the sun
or the wind 15 cents per kwh and up! Up to $2,000 per year for 9 years.
Click here to read more. Also,
I was recently contacted by WSU's Klickitat County Learning Center to put on
a renewable energy seminar this summer. Everything is set for August 13 in the KPUD meeting room.
Spokespeople from NW Seed/OurWind CoOP, Klickitat County Conservation
District, USDA rural development, KPUD, and Columbia River Bank will be
there to talk about funding renewable energy projects.

Aluminum, Lutherans and Hospitals |
| |
Saturday, April 30, 2005
We recently signed contracts and began work on two great new projects. The
first is with Shinstine/Associates out of Puyallup, WA. They are going to be
rebuilding the Christ the King Lutheran
Church sanctuary in Goldendale. The old sanctuary was burned down by
arson about 2 years ago and the church has just finished their fund raising
drive to build a new sanctuary that will be a nice addition to the
architectural landscape of the town.
The second is
with a company called CPC and its local affiliate Cascade Solutions. They
have rented the old shipping building at the Goldendale Aluminum plant and
are putting together a chemical batch process for the paper mill industry.
We will be installing a 600Amp MCC, control cabinet and all the motor and
process points to make their system work.
Last month we did a clean and tork of all the electrical panels at the
Klickitat Valley Health Services Facility in Goldendale. They were very
happy with our efficiency and the thoroughness of our documentation. We were
able to lay out several maintenance issues for them to incorporate into
future electrical improvements.
We've also begun doing some work with
West Winds
Construction out of Goldendale and have enjoyed getting to know Lynn and
his crew.

Solar Spring is Coming |
|
Wednesday, April 6, 2005
Since the first of the year I've started 2 solar jobs. One on and one off
grid. The off grid project is much more involved, with batteries, AC and DC
distribution
panels, a generator tie in, etc. so I'm still waiting for many of the
components. Here's a picture of the owner and John Grim, of John Grim and
Associates - who designed the system - posing with "Old Reliable" the panel
that kept the lights on for almost 20 years
The grid tied project is a 2KW system using 12
Shell SQ165 panels and an
SMA Sunny
Boy 1800W inverter.
We made the final connections today and with the sun low in the February sky
- at almost 3:30 the array was putting out over 1200 Watts!
and photos of the finished products.
We just received our AEE 2005 Renewable Energy Design Guide and Catalog. If
you would like to order a copy Please send $5 to PO Box 662, Goldendale, WA
98620, and we'll get one out to you right away. You can also find copies at
retail outlets around Goldendale.

Winter's here |
|
Monday, December 6, 2004 The
first big snow came today - St. Nicholas day of all things. I had a small
article published in the local utility's magazine,
Ruralite. Just a recap of the dedication of
the wind generators and a plug for small wind co-ops.
Still working on the Senior Center and other small jobs
around the county.

Senior Center Job |
|
Tuesday September 7, 2004 I
started doing some demo for Tomel Construction of Ellensburg, Washington on
the Goldendale Senior Center. As you can see from these pictures the old
place is in serious need of a face lift.
The
inside isn't much better.
The
original was actually 2 buildings. Some time in the 30's Safeway came in and
knocked down the wall between the two buildings making it one space. There
have been many other remodels along the way and it's our job to put the
pieces together and make something that will work even better for the
seniors. We are upgrading their phone system, making more room for the
second hand store and putting in some office space.
It should be real nice when it's done.

So What's Next? |
| |
Friday September 3, 2004 I'm
putting the final wraps on the
Water
project for the City of Goldendale and looking forward to working with them
many more times in the future. These
photo's are pretty generic but give a basic idea of the scope of our work at
the site.
I started work at the Goldendale Senior Center. The
seniors are getting a much needed face lift to a building that went up
before many of the seniors were born. It is a federally funded project and
Seraphim Electric was awarded the electrical contract in August. We should
be there off and on through November - I'll try and get some before and
after photos.
On Wednesday the 1st of September I had the privilege to
help put up another Bergey 10KW grid tie inverter at the
Caldwell/Bassetti Ranch right near my home
and office - we can now see 2 of these units from my shop outside
of Goldendale. I took my boys along to take some photos - they had more fun
getting shots of the dogs and the pigs and the horses than anything. It's
always good to have them along.
I got the wind generator and inverter all hooked up
before the power company had a chance to put in their fancy new net meter.
The net meters are digital and not much fun to look at. But with the old one
still in place I sure got a kick out of watching that thing spin backwards.
The wind was running pretty steady at around 25mph and with everything
running in the house the meter would stand still. Once the fridge or freezer
dropped out the meter started whizzing backwards. Just what I like to see!

Hot Summer Days |
|
Saturday July 10, 2004 The project with the city of Goldendale is going very well. Unfortunately,
because of Homeland Security we've been asked not to post any photo's. But
the job is on target and it's been a great pleasure working with all our
suppliers, the City's crew and Allstar. I'd like to thank each one for their
help in getting the job done right. We hope to be complete by the end of
August and on to bigger and better things.
The Bassetti's 10KW Bergey wind generator arrived ahead
of schedule and they are hurriedly prepping the site for an erection
sometime in late July.
Seraphim Electric is very excited about being awarded the
electrical portion of Goldendale's Senior Center remodel. The city is taking
an historic downtown building and putting some much needed charm back into
it, that everyone will be able to enjoy - especially the city's seniors.
I've been doing a little volunteer work for an Orthodox
mission church that is starting in The Dalles, OR
- Holy Dormition. It's been a blessing to work with Fr. Luke and see his
faith and the prayers of many blossoming forth into a nice little community
there.

The Year in Review |
| |
Saturday May 8, 2004 It's
almost been a year since we opened up for business here at Seraphim
Electric. It's been a great year, full of challenges and all the unexpected
good things that make the effort more than worth while.
Recently I finished up a couple houses - one "cabin" and
a house - for the Kirks and Reese family. Both of them nice custom homes. I
wish them both a blessed time in their new places.
Last October I delivered the first
waste water control
cabinet to the city of Albany. This is a project I've been working on in
conjunction with EC Company's Albany Division. The upgrade went well and I'm
currently working on the second cabinet and should have it ready for
delivery on the 3rd of May.
The biggest news Seraphim Electric has had to date is the
landing of a job for the City of Goldendale. We will be working for Allstar
Inc. on a water system upgrade for the city. The project should last well
into the summer and help to launch Seraphim Electric into some larger
industrial projects. I'm looking forward to working with all the guys at
Allstar and the city crew |
